try turn it off, all the way off, as in hold the power switch til it shuts down, then it will charge like crazy, it usually takes me 1.5 - 2 hrs to go from 10 - 100%

My psp was barely charged at all when i downgraded. I think as long as u have the AC pluged in you're safe.
