FireSky announces a February 10th release date for PC third-person online shooter Stargate Resistance, "the first Stargate game ever to come to market."
Now Stargate Resistance is the first Stargate game from developer Cheyenne Mountain to come to market, which is good news, considering how much trouble the company has had getting the Stargate Worlds MMO off the ground. The game features class-based team combat, pitting Stargate Command against the System Lords. The two factions do battle using authentic Stargate SG-1 weapons across authentic Stargate SG-1 battlefields.
It sounds like it could be a lot of fun for Stargate fans, who've been waiting quite a long time for a true SG-1 game experience. Still, it's hardly the first Stargate game to come to market, as the release date announcement suggests.
That title technically goes to Acclaim's Stargate, released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy, based on the movie that eventually led to the Stargate SG-1 series. SkyZone Entertainment released a Stargate SG-1 game for the mobile phone in 2004, following that up with Stargate SG-1: Entropy Syndrome in 2007. And then Sony Online Entertainment released a card game.
So the first Stargate SG-1-based PC shooter to make it to market is coming on February 10th. Stay tuned to the Stargate Resistance website for information on preordering and pricing.
