you can identify if its fake by looking at the back of the stick, serial code lazer engraved can be seen, if there is, it real, if not, of course, its fake, and wont last.
so if you have a fake, make sure to take extreme care to the stick because it will burn itself and not work anymore.
    thats all thgat i know,
and mine is real but my is 1GB and costed me $112.00 usd when it came out, now its like $49.99 usd.
    sucks big time >:P

Must agree with you on that one tophead420:
When purchasing something like a memory stick (or a psp at that) I prefer doing it myself, looking at the thing and checking if everything is in order; on-line deals are useful but I wouldn't risck my money (and we all know how these things are expensive) on something that might malfunction/cause damage/not even arrive.

yeah its totally not worth risking your money on these just to save a few bucks in the long run its worth spending the extra money to insure the product you purchased is going to last a long time and thanks for agreeing with me

I bought a £31.99 2Gb card from eBay recently and the card failed with CRC errors after about 750Mb of data being loaded. Devhook would not load from it either.

It was certainly a fake, had the tell tale signs such as pictures on the packaging in the wrong order, no sony warantee paper inside the package etc. Don't be fooled by just looking at the laser etching, this one has that, but IS fake. The bloke still has 99.99% positive feedback with plenty of sales so looks like most must be okay. Guess mine was from a dodgy batch.

I've since bought a genuine card for about £60 and when you put the packages/contents side by side you can tell the difference.

Fale or not?`geee .... who cares?!

The "myth" that a fake memory stick tends to "break suddenly at one day" without u haveing anything done wrong is just stupid bull$#@!. It might be true that u can't write/format a fake MemStick as often as u can a real one, that is correct, but his ain't nothing to do with this myth of suddenly no more working or even burning or whatever ...

Actually I bought my first Memstick (a 1 GB Stick) at the German Media Markt (europeans might have heared that Comapny once in a while) and my sec. one (2 GB) via e-bay. Since the forst one is real and the sec. fake (I checked that) YOU'd tell me that the first one should "live" longer ... WRONG! I already have errors (can'T tell u which ones, way too complicated! BUT THE SIK WORKED PERCEFTLY WHEN I GOT IT!) when I copy files to the 1 GB sandisk one ... the 2 GB cheap-china-fake one worx perfectly. And actually I copy & delete A LOT more on the 2 GB fake one ...
This is just to show u that ur theory of the cheap ones being the ones of less quality is pure bull$#@!!

Anyway: This 1 GB cost 99 € ... only 3 months later, the 2 GB at ebay cost all in all 66 € (!!!!!)
So your sec. theory of not wasting the money to get a fake one is bull$#@! either, just because of the fact that REAL 2 GB Stick costs 150+ (at least it did when I checked last time which was round 4 weeks ago) and the fake one costs only ~55 euro ... THIS IS 33% of the original price!!!! God damnit. If $ony would not sell their ****in bull$#@! stuff for a price which is double the price their stuff is worth, then they needn't worry about plagiarism ... As always my favourite sentence at last: $ony U SUCK!
