This has been brought up many times, but I don't think it would be as simple as you think.
Would It Be Posible To Create A Custom Firmware Update That Makes A 2.71 PSP Think The Update Is Actually And Update (UPDATE 3.00 Or Something), And Have The Update Customized For Homebrew Capabilities?

many people have been trying this, and its not gonna work...
maybe someday, who knows?
Well when we get xmb on firmware 2.80 with full support, it will be the best day
I dont get why hackers arent trying solutions in devhook while they can...
Thaought It Would Work, If You Get Hex Editor, You Can Edit The DATA.PSP And DATA.PSAR Files, I Tried It, But In Order For It To Work You would Have To Find Certain Validation Codes In The 2.8 EBOOT To Inject Into The 1.5 EBOOT.
I Mean, I Got My Custom EBOOT To Load On 2.71, But When It Came To The Update Screen It Started Then My PSP Crashed. So It Is Possible But It Might Take A Little Time And Effort.
NO It will not work as soon as you edit a update it becomes corrupt
