Ubisoft has said that it is now the number two independent games publisher across Europe including key territories France, Germany and the UK.

Ranked as third for the first six months of 2009, growth in the first half of 2010 sees the The Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy publisher as number two overall in Europe with 9.5 per cent market share, compared to 8 per cent last year.

It is also number two in the key regions of France, where market share has grown from 7.7 per cent to 9.3 per cent, and in the UK where share has risen to 11 per cent from 8.3 per cent. Germany has also seen a rise from 7.8 per cent to 9.2 per cent.

The company is still ranked as number four in the US, but has grown its share of the market from 4.8 per cent to 6 per cent.

The stats come as Ubisoft releases its first quarter financial results, with sales at €161 million, a slight rise on last week's estimates of €160 million, up 94 per cent on the previous year.
