Downgrading from 2.0 to 1.5

what if it was never 1.5 to begin with? i think i read somewhere it has to be originally 1.5

That's not true. You can downgrade completely safe as long as you follow the instructions correctly. And it's very easy, so you won't do it wrong.

I've downgraded a friend's PSP that was factory 1.52, so it doesn't need to be originally 1.5.

Mp4 files go in the MP_ROOT>100MNV01 file or they will not work. The also have to be named M4Vxxxxx.mp4 (replace the x's with numbers)
