Hi guys, thanks for your (mostly) nice comments. I'm a little late posting (and joining), but I just found out about the post, and I guess I have some explaining to do.

Rewind to 4-6 August 2006. In Baltimore, MD, a huge "japanese culture" (read: anime) convetnion is going on: Otakon. So, 25 000 nerds converge on the Baltimore Convention Center (it's a miracle it's still standing), and I swear at least 10 000 of them cosplay as something. There's a large gameroom there, and tons of videogame crossover traffic in large anime crowds.

The thing is, I've got my own "convention" thing I run. It's more of a videogame party with a rock concert but it still managed to pull in 750 last year. We have decent enough attendance to attract the Minibosses (and lots of other talented videogame bands) and hold it at a hotel. Not so bad. So, back to Otakon..

How to promote this there? Well, I could just be a random guy, saying "hey, come to my videogame party" handing out flyers. Or I could dress up in something that totally grabs everyone's attention. It only took a few hours to make (the dimensions are far from accurate), and I swear I couldn't walk a city block without someone stopping me in this thing. But it's perfect! Everyone wants to know what the hell I'm doing in a nintendo controller outfit. And anyone that stops you is, at the very least, possibly into videogames.

Besides. Sometimes it's good for getting the ladies.

That's when you hit em with a flyer and shoot the breeze for 5 seconds (or minutes), and keep going. Doing things this way I was able to get 2000 flyers out in one weekend. It was a lot of fun, and the looks you get riding the metro... priceless! Dudes from the city paper even stop you for a picture, almost making you miss the bus to the convention center, hence this image exists. Totally awesome.

By the way, the wiimote/nunchuku idea is actually something we've already started work on for the next major event we hit. I'll try to fill you guys in with an image/report if anyone's actually interested.

    Cheers!
