I have opened my Psp with no problems before and although I did not need to do anything with the shoulder buttons, one of them came of accidentally and were easy to place back.

It could be something as simple as needing a clean or it could be broken in which case you can buy a replacement shoulder button online. Take a look at this Psp faceplate replacement tutorial because it shows you how to open the Psp so it will give you a good idea.

As long as you do not lose the screws and you do not ruin the screw heads from over turning it will be fine, I use a magnet to keep the screws on. If you send it to Sony they will probably upgrade it to 2.8 as well

    is this fixable??
This is Sony's new attempt to force users to upgrade. Their PSP will break, Sony will fix it and return it with Firmware 2.80 installed.
