is this thing still available?
i cant get it ....
Hi in7ane,
I noted that the maps downloaded by GMDL 5.09a are being much smaller than the estimated size shown in the tile view. I downloaded the map for Austin/TX which in the tile view GMDL estimated the size of about 800 MB and, after the download has finished, I've got a map with about 162MB. Is it normal? Have you applied some compression method for the GPSFS files.
Thanks for your great application.

hi Insane, I can't send you a private message so I write it here.
Some iPhone users are sad because maps cache generated by GMDL are no longer compatible with 2.2 firmware. Database tables must had been modified.
Could you make a new version to support 2.2 iTouch Firmware ?
You'll find new maps caches here :
http://code.google.com/p/gmdl/issues/detail?id=1
No, tables are intact. It's the tile size. Now it is 128x128px, not 64x64 as before.
BTW, you can get converter form old to new format here (source code included).

rnelias, the discrepancy happens in areas where there are not a lot of streets at lower zoom levels (since the tiles are blank and take up less space). Right now I calculate the estimated size based on the tiles displayed onscreen - I'm still thinking of an elegant solution to sampling the whole stack for a better estimate.
Kheo, due to exams it will probably be December, or maybe January, before I get a chance to modify GMDL for the 2.2 firmware tile database format. in the meantime there is the converter liked to by Redart. It also looks like the converter's author is planning to release a much more user-friendly tool specifically to download and build iPhone maps (this may also be faster if downloaded tiles are cut up and dumped directly into the database, skipping the file and the GPSFS stages in GMDL).
CaN someone provide another download link ???
the one Nieko posted doesnt seem to be working
and does this work with Windows Vista???
I have amazing problem with map of china
When i try download map and minimalize the map enough to see all china and click preview i always see usa instead of china thats reallly weird.

Simple question WTF. How i can download full map of china any hints ?
Thank you
Hi
I'm totally new to this and I'm not a gamer. I'm trying to download / save google maps to my PDA Dell Axim v51 for offline viewing and or GPS navigation.
I'm not sure if anyone can or wants to help me with this, but I have tried to get "Global Map download tool" to work on my Vista PC, with the following problems:
1. No Graphics and No Tiles are selected when I try to "Download the map"
2. Something about changing my IP address or what for several hours
3. A text file stating a problem with WMS Service
And What is GPSFS? Is that the file that I use to view the maps offline??
Any help is appriciated

CONGRATULATIONS,
In7ane, it's a great work, I'm really surprised. Just a small question... is there an "easy" way to generate a calibration file for each tile? The GPSFS files are not explained in deep in the wikibooks, so it's a bit frustrating having your great software just for PSP
(I was thinking in Ozi and the like). Surely a deeper study and a bit of rev-eng may end with a simple script to generate the cal files needed, but perhaps you have done something into this direction.
Regards,
Carlos
