I just hope that Nintendo doesn't try to stop us from running homebrew on it. I heard that the Wii automatically updates, even if it's off. Quoted from Nintendo:
"Communication: Wii can communicate with the Internet even when the power is turned off. This WiiConnect24 service delivers a new surprise or game update, even if users do not play with Wii. I turn my router off so that won't be a problem.
We will find a homebrew hack to stop the updates anyways.

I do not beleave it will update without asking you first....I think it s illegal in europe to install stuff on hardware without ask the owner first.
