Dreamcast SD Adapter for Dreamcast Released

Now this is very very exciting news, the chaps over at spanish site Dreamcast.ES have posted that an SD Adapter for the Dreamcast has been released.

    From the translation

[Loosley translated from the Chinese site]

"DIY's dedicated DC SD card reader directly uses the serial port without modifying the motherboard. Comes with boot disks, and your choice of 1 of 5 different styles. With this you can play the games of FC DC MD SFC GBA GBC PCE NEOGEOCD MAME and many other emulators and homebrew games."

Pretty much you would use this for putting emulators and homebrew games on it, and many other Dreamcast applications such as Xvid movies and music.

These can run retail games, but if they use CDDA, they lag a lot.

The ability to play Homebrew on the Dreamcast without the need to mess about burning to a CD means this is the best hardware release in years for the Dreamcast, for those who understand Chinese you can try and order one here --> http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=7818521031

Anyone who buys one let us know how you go on.

Default Gonna try to get one

I contacted a "Taobao Agent", someone who apparently lives in China, speaks English, and for a fee purchases things on Taobao and ships them to you. I emailed them just now asking for an estimate of total cost to get one into the States. I'll post followups as I go along.

    Default Got Prices

From the group I contacted (I will provide info if I receive the item in a timely manner and hassle free) the following prices were quoted

(All via Paypal, it's nearly double to pay via western union which I'd never do in the first place. Also please note these are all uninsured)

    DHL : $ 23.41 (What I'm using)
    XIN : $ 39.45
    EMS : $ 29.14
    Airmail: $19.07
    SAL : $18.66

So I'm gonna go ahead and see if this all works out. Told em I want to do DHL and waiting for the paypal invoice. So far so good.

The actual item cost ~7.20 in USD using their exchange rate, the shipping is the biggest thing, their commission was $3.80

*EDIT -- costs listed are not just shipping but item + commission + shipping.

Thanks for posting my video, I literally got close to a thousand views over night!

Ya, I seriously can't wait for these, I live in Texas, so I hope the price is cheaper for shipping than that, $7 US for just the adapter is CHEAP! Does anybody know if it comes with a SD card or not?

Beyond the language barrier it is nearly impossible to Taobao stuff if you don't either use an agent or have a bank account in the PRC. I'm also paying for what is the fastest method of PRC -> Hong Kong -> US.

I will have pics and etc when it comes in.
