Ta-082: Open the UMD door, and look right at the top and if on the right hand side there is "IC0003" (in gold writing), then don't downgrade, since your bricking chances are 100%.

When I downgraded, I tried it 3 times, switched it off, and removed the battery. I put the battery back in like 5 mins later, and it worked first time

i figured out the problem..i had a wallpaper then i formatted my memory stick but the wallpaper was still up..it made it crash all i had to do was take the wallpaper off

its on the red screen
