2.60 downgrader help

i downloaded the 2.60 downgrader full version and everything went smoothly until i went to the eloader (0.97) it said "scanning" as ausual, but instead of my homebrew and apps appearing, the scanning dissapeared and all the spots where blank. after about 30 seconds my psp went black and when i turned it on i was back at the home screen. what was wrong?

did you format your memory stick and was the downdater the only file in the memory stick?
