psp 2.01 to use 2.6 or 2.7 downgrader?

I have a 2.01 which I use with eloader and gta for homebrew.
Whats your views on the best way to downgrade to 1.5.
Should I upgrade to 2.5 or 2.6 and downgrade or should I upgrade to 2.71 and use the easy downgrader 2.71 to 1.5 any suggestions would be welcome as my 6 year old son would kill me if I made his psp a brick.

i gotta say 2.6 is probably the safest bet to go. be warned however once youre at 1.5 i highly highly reccomend upgrading to 2.0 and then back down to 1.5. it cleans up the firmware nicely. straight 2.6-1.5 makes your firmware messy and slow.

That bit about the slow firmware is crap. I downgraded 2.71 to 1.5 and it is just as good as my other 1.5. If it makes you feel better then you can do an extra downgrade.

people have reported partial bricking of the xmb if you go from 2.xx to 1.5 to custom fw.

yea you HAVE to upgrade to 2.0 then dg, or 1.5 dg to 1.0 and upgrade (i think this is a better way)
