Rev Nintendo Wii: price and launch details!

Reports sweeping the internet at the moment are saying that the Nintendo Wii will launch on November 24, priced at just £149 and that stock will be plentiful if you want to fill your Christmas stocking.

Trade mag MCV is reporting both price and launch details as fact, even ahead of next Friday's press conference when Nintendo is expected to confirm those crucial details. Nintendo are remaining tight lipped and are apparently refusing to comment on the reports, but when such a well established and respected magazine goes early, we have to suspect there's more than a glimmer of truth to it.

We spoke to Lisa Foster, Managing Editor of MCV to see how confident the trade title is in their breaking exclusive and she told CVG, "We are very confident about the story, especially the price and that Nintendo Wii will launch in the week ending November 24."

Naturally we also contacted Nintendo to see if they have any comment on the story and we are still awaiting their reply. However Nintendo boss David Yarnton, told GI.biz that MCV's story was, "only speculation, and definitely not fact. They're not far off, but they're definitely not right," the Nintendo boss added.

CVG also contacted a number of industry sources and insiders to see what their reaction was and while most agreed with us, that the price seems right on the mark, a substantial number of our sources were a little more unsure about the actual launch date.

Most seemed to agree that November 24 might be a touch early and that an early December release would seem more likely, especially given this week's news about the launch of the PS3 being delayed until March 2007. So you pays your money and takes your choice we guess, and while we wholeheartedly back MCV's price point, we tend to favour more of an early December date for Wii launch. Either way though it's great news for Wii fans and all will be revealed next week when Nintendo make the news official. Keep it tuned to CVG for all the Wii goodness you can consume.

    That's about $275.00 U.S.

That seems about right where they predicted. I think initial reports were estimating $250.00. I hope they do $250.00 and not $300.00. It's not that huge of a difference, but still....

I could buy 3 of these and a game for the price of a PS3. I'm so getting one, it's unbelieveable!

I was thinking the same thing. $250 is going to look so nice compared to the other system prices. I think this thing is going to sell like crazy. I can't wait to have a Wii parked right next to my Xbox360.

150 pounds in UK, that will be $220 in US.

But for $220 I expect that the IBM processor will run at 1 Ghz or 1,1 Ghz.

Actually... My guess is it will cost either $200(historical nintendo launch price) or $170(to really make a splash).

Historically the method for determining cost is simple... take how much it costs in the US... and remove the dollar sign... then add the € to it, subtract a little for UK... throw on the £.

    For example...
    announced PS3 pricing...
    $599
    €599
    £425

    425 British pounds = 803.16500 U.S. dollars
    599 Euro = 767.31900 U.S. dollar

    Xbox 360 pricing
    $299.99 U.S.
    €299.99
    £209.99

    299.99 Euro = 384.28719 U.S. dollar
    209.99 British pounds = 396.839102 U.S. dollar

    Wii?
    $200 or $170
    €200 or €170
    £149

    200 Euros = 256.2 U.S. dollars
    170 Euros = 217.77 U.S. dollars
    149 British pounds = 281.5802 U.S. dollars

As you can see Europe pays more with the same price... and UK pays even more with a lower price!

So... my bet is on $200. It is the price of every Nintendo console ever launched on release day and it is the price that seems to make sense here, after all... 200 U.S. dollars = 105.831305 British pounds. Of course they could always go for the bang WOW price of $170. That would just be incredible.

All conversions done by google. :P

im hoping for 250$ or under. so i dont have to take money out of my bank. cuz when i do, my dad gets all pissed and hes liek "OMG WHY U TAKING MONEY OUT FOR GAME?!?!1?!?/?"

i have enough right now for the wii itself and this weekend im having a yard sale and i have a lot of stuff to sell. so ill probably make about 40-50$ so ill have enough for 1 game.... and ill do my chores to get my 5$ per week and that will put me at around 50-60$ more before the wii comes out. well what the heck. if i need to ill take out money. it is MY money in the bank anyways.
