OK, have d/l the 2.71 update and put it in PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder, ran the eboot 0.9.8, clicked on UPDATE and ....................nothing happens?
it just goes back to the eboot menu?
anyone help please?!!?!

You don't run the update through the eLoader, you run that from the XMB (the psp's menu screen) You run the downgrader through the eLoader.
