Pokémon Black/White sell 1m in a day

Pokémon Black/White, the latest entries in Nintendo's beast-battling handheld series, notched up a whopping 1.08 million purchases in its first day on sale in the US alone.
That makes it the fastest-selling Pokémon title ever, smashing the 780,000 tally set by Pokémon Diamond/Pearl in 2007.
You should of course bear in mind that these sales are spread across two separate games, but still, those are some massive figures.
"These sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems," claimed Nintendo marketing man Charlie Scibetta.
"Already established as the nation's best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47 million makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience."
Nintendo hasn't released UK sales figures, but the games topped the multiformat charts after their first week on release. The games have sold over five million copies in Japan since they launched there in September last year.
It's hard to begrudge Nintendo its success here. The games really are rather good.
"With a great many small and well-placed innovations, a vivacious, inventive new cast and the biggest cosmetic makeover the series has ever seen, Pokémon Black and White makes it all feel new again," wrote Eurogamer's Keza MacDonald in her 9/10 review
