I thought you didn't have to do that for this downgrader. I guess I was wrong

That is the safest option to upgrade to 2.00 and downgrade back to 1.50 because 2.6 and 2.71 downgraders become a glitchy 1.5. So if you actually run the 1.50 update when you have "1.00" (2.0 in disguise), it will install it with no glitches
