It allows for the DS to be turned into a media center, and theres other things like Beup (MSN clone if you dont know) in which the touchscreen comes in very handy, or things like DS2Key where you turn your DS into a controller for you computer, there are other things too but i cant think of them right now

you have beup (msn for the nds), nds mail, paint programs, movie programs, mp3 players, pocket pc type programs, ports of computer operating systems, fun games, and other nifty things... hopefully soon a fully functionable homebrew webbrowser will come out soon!

I use my modded DS for the following:
- Using my DS as a wireless joystick controller for my PC over WiFi
- Being able to view my desktop on my DS, and using the mouse from my DS
- Running AIM, MSN, and IRC from my DS

And things I don't do but are pretty popular:
Movies, Music, Books, Playing Doom (it doesnt work on my M3 miniSD, I'm sad), Paint...

SAVE YOURSELF MONEY BY MODDING YOUR DS.
