The psp i wanted to swap has now been repaired. I bought a psp with a busted umd drive and swapped them over. Now I have a bricked psp with a busted umd drive and a perfect psp.
I have some more broken psps on the way too. Seems like I can get 2 good psps out of every bad 3.

Do you have a bricked psp?
If any of you are working on a downgrader try downloading a program called PBP Unpacker. This lets you edit the file. It may also trick the PSP into thinking it is a later version. Here is a link to the progam.

I almost got it working once (I got it to open the file without displaying the Message), but then it said the game wasn't able to start. Is that what you mean?
PS: You can''t blame a guy for trying...
Also What I meant was take a 1.50 EBoot and extract the files from it (PBP is just a psp compressed file/folder) and change the name and such so it doesn't pick up on the fact that it is an old update.

just run the 2.82 update, half way through, just pull out the battery.
