Tis all good with me, but WTF is up with the d-pad thing? Seriously, if you can't use the d-pad because it's too "strenuous," then you must be an effing pansy.

whilst the ideas / points raised are certainly valid (i for one whould like a better d-pad and better online-gaming faciltiies) i think it's far too easy to forget that it's not as simple as DS vs PSP.

the PSP has come to sit in a very different market to the DS, and although Sony may not have intended it that way, they seem content to let it stay that way.

all my friends are a similar age to myself - the 22-28 bracket, and whilst i know plenty of PSP owners (although only one other who uses homebrew) i dont know a single DS owner. I can only put this down to the console appealing to a different (younger) audience.

i think trying to compare the two on direct sales figures is just stupid, and that Sony should concentrate their efforts on fulfilling the wants of the market group the PSP appeals to.... Yes that does include homebrew access, but should also include online gaming, downloadable media (music, movies etc), *inovative* games, whilst leaving the DS to carry on selling to the Kids who are quite content playing the latest churned-out beat-em-up and yet-another f**king Mario game.

    Default Yes!!!

Wraggster makes excellent points and has good ideas, but....... Lets not forget that the PSP was already under priced at launch for $250. So a third price cut would be great for us but devastating for sony due to production costs. As for the controls, the analog stick needs a major update, I personally still play racing games with the D-Pad, it feels better. The games. We can definately use a better library of titles but it does suck that it takes the same amount of resourses to make a PSP game as a PS2. Once again development costs cripple the PSP but quality games counter this! Also sony should test games that require a large amount of loading time... (this makes games undesireable for example Midnightclub, excellent game poor load time therefore I dont play it!)... and instead of putting them out on UMD fling it on MEM Card, I would still buy it due to less load time if any. Sony I've yet to hear Nintendo complain about HOMEBREW on their systems, hint hint**, loosen up! Also keyword accessories. Lets be BOLD and put out a touch screen for the PSP, why not?, if the PSP can handle GPS, PS3 interactivity and all that other cool stuff I dont see the problem. Apparently the PSP is still on it's experimental stage anyway! But truth be told, I love both of my PSP's. Also PSone DL's need to be cheap and I would even welcome a yearly membership! The PSP is far from defeated!

It's true that the PSP offers a change, rather than the Nintendo's continuous range of Mario titles...

However, being a person who has played a good number of the mario games I find that I am very attatched to the titles because of the gameplay offered. This may relate to graphics.

Gameplay > Graphics in my opinion
(don't judge a book by its cover)

I know that sony will be releasing the playstation emulator soon, however it still concerns me to its capabilities. Eventually when the emulators from the homebrew scene work 90-100%, people will start using images made from games or even images obtained from the internet aka warez. It's nothing big anyway, unless Sony can include multiplayer via wifi (1 in a 100 chance I say)...

    Regarding Hungry Horace's comment:
I know a lot of people as well who do not have any knowledge about homebrew and they are legit when it comes to their PSP. However in the near future I will expect the number of psp's w/homebrew to grow (considering the current devellopments).

    Man, a PSP2 would suck.

    As for the first post...

    Yep, UMD movies are pointless.
Lowering the system price might be too suicidal for Sony.
The D-pad IS pretty unresponsive when trying to use it for movement...
FPS games like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty will be big titles and will be exclusive to the PSP. 3D portable GTA games are already exclusive to the PSP. There's a TON of good games coming out in Q4 of 2006.
Is there really a problem in the online play? Well, the only online game I've ever played on the PSP is SOCOM, and I think they did that flawlessly.
It's going to suck that players will have to upgrade in order to get new features like the PS1 emulator, unless DevHook can keep up.
I don't have much interest in those multi-colored PSPs... If I didn't already own a 1.5 PSP, THEN I would think of buying one. But that's just me.

You know what Sony REALLY needs for the PSP?
Some kind of attachment or program that will let players play Ad Hoc games online. PSP Star Wars Battlefront 2 would be so awesome online.
Two joysticks. My God, two joysticks. Some kind of attachment that adds another joystick! The shooter genre would be PERFECT for the PSP if they'd just add another joystick!

Hopefully the next generation of portable game consoles won't come out in, like... Ten years. If we're lucky.
Though "lucky" depends on how you look at it. In a few decades, give or take a few dozen years, we'll have all-out PS3/360/WII-looking portable devices on the markets.
