Unhappy Help getting CloneKeen DC running?

Has anyone got CloneKeen DC to run? If so, how!? I loved this game and I would like to introduce my girlfriend to it. They just don't make games like this anymore.

I have tried everything that I know, unsuccessfully, to get this to run. I saved the 1st_read.bin file to the root directory, as well as the .CK files from all of the CK episodes. I've tried placing the 1st_read.bin in the root directory and the data files in keen/bin/data under the root, as stated in the readme.txt file. I have tried to load these discs with Utopia DC Boot CD and DC Hakker. In neither one will the game load.

Any help will br greatly appreciated!

The readme says that you should copy all of the data files with ".ck?" of 'Invasion of the Vorticons' to "keen\bin\data".

It's a shame I haven't tested this release myself yet, so I am not really sure what to do. Maybe you could just put it into several different folders on the same disc: keen\bin\data, bin\data, \data, just to be sure.

Anyway, I am not sure if the Utopia Boot CD would work with anything homebrew (except WinCE ports) but I can recommend to burn you a quick test CDR with BootDreams or SBInducer.

Make sure if you use DCHakker that you set the appropriate binary loading method. I'm pretty sure the default is set to load scrambled binaries, so if the 1st_read.bin is unscrambled (shouldn't be since it's called 1st_read.bin) you have to change the loading method by clicking on "Config" on the lower right.

Any reasons why you're using the boot discs instead of selfbooting CloneKeen DC it's self?

Have you tried downloading a sbi of it and using SBInducer?

You can also try out DOSBOX DC which can play the original DOS version on your Dreamcast. I'm not sure how well it plays unfortunately.

Lastly, are you putting the Commander Keen data files in the /data folder which is in /keen/bin which are on the CD's root or are you putting the Commander Keen data files on the CD's root, without folders?

What bothers me the most with CloneKeen is that it still requires keyboard. I think a Jump'n'Run should be playable with Joypad. Anyway looking forward to the next update and I'll surely will have a look in get ting a CDI with the shareware version included released when I finally try to get the game working myself.

I took a look at the source code and it seems to be reading from just /data not /keen/bin/data like the readme says.

I created a DiscJuggler image to test with shareware Commander Keen. Download and let me know if it works.

AWESOME! It works great. I just can't figure out which key shoots. This is the shareware version right? So I need to copy the .CK* files from the full version into the data directory?

I really appreciate the help. Can I ask what you used to make this into a boot disc? I'm new to this so I'm learning as I go. Thanks again....

(And hopefully I've helped turn some of you on to a really cool game!)

I used BootDreams to make the image. Yeah that was the shareware version so just stick your full version files in /data, use and BootDreams to burn and you're good to go. I don't know the key either as I've never play it, maybe try the S3 key on the keyboard.
