Thread: Question about homebrew development.

    Default Question about homebrew development.

    I'm a PC-literate guy who wishes to make a couple of homebrew apps for the DS (maybe if they turn out good I'll post them). Problem is I need to know a couple things first:

    1.) Where do I find a good tutorial for homebrew that doesn't require WiFiMe?

    2.) How hard and time-consuming is it?

    Thank you for any and all help. I am trying to make a fully featured Flash player that will play any .FLVs or .SWFs and will allow you to map certain joypad functions as keyboard letters using a touch screen keyboard. Also, I want to make a 3d Zelda game, maybe a port of LoZ: OoT. Maybe.

    I'm a computer novice but would love info on this also. I like taking a stab at new things.

    I want to try a port of the Japanese GBA Silent Hill Play Novel, which I believe it has been partially translated by the Silent Hill community, and the translated SNES Clocktower game.

    Nah, I'll most likely do the first one first since porting Ocarina of Time from N64 to NDS would take a WHOLE LOT OF WORK. A PDF viewer though would be a nice thing to set my sights on though.

    yeah. it would be complete awesomeness if you could get Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask to work on the DS.

    Lol, it would be kinda hard to learn about the encoding of a N64 game, change its joypad functions so that way:

    L = Z-targeting
    R = Shield
    Y = Sword slash
    B = Action/Roll
    A = Use Item
    X = First-person camera view/Navi

    It would take a looooong time to make a touchpad inventory system in which you would simply touch the weapon to equip rather than map the weapons to three separate weapons. Plus it'll be hard to get the game running in full emulation through a GBA bus. And then there's the size of the files. Will I be able to compress it all into one executable or will I have to have it all in separate files most likely about 16-32 mb each? There are a lot of thigns to consider. Besides, Nintendo would probably beat me to the punch before I'd finish it anyway. But I'll give it a shot.

    I would still make a flash player or PDF viewer before I get to Zelda.

    Actually...

    I WOULD LOVE YOU TO DEATH IF YOU GOT NAVI TO SHUT THE F*CK UP THROUGH THE WHOLE GAME (With the "Listen!" thing.)

    And those controls would be awesome. WITH MAJORAS MASK!

    You could also use the touch screen to CHANGE items, A to use.

    And, IF Nintendo beat you to it, I'd love to play a HB free version, THEN the DS version.

    Better do it in secrecy, I've seen Nintendo shut down a NDS SSB project.

    Really? Wow. I guess that means that Nintendo is working on a SSB title. I remember when I had my PSP that Sony did a cease and desist to that guy who made a HB Bejeweled game for the PSP. I think they came out with an official one later. I will heed your words wisely.
