Will the devices deal a further blow to the falling sales of Nintendo and Sony?
Market researcher comScore says when it comes to tablet use, games are the most popular activity ahead of videos, music and reading.
Results show 67 per cent of tablet owners use their device to play games at least once per month, while 65 per cent view video clips, 62 per cent listen to downloaded music and 57 per cent read e-magazines and newspapers.
The report also highlights that on a daily basis, 23 per cent use the device for gameplay.
This will come as bad news to Sony and Nintendo, who we recently reported are facing rapidly falling sales at the hands of Android and iOS smartphones, which are seeing a growing interest in gaming.
Mark Donovan, SVP of mobile at comScore, said: "It took us seven years to get to the first 20 million smartphone owners, and it took us 20 months to get to the first 20 million tablet owners."
