Dark Alex has released a new decryptor test that enables you to run the Ridge Racer 2 demo released yesterday on v2.71 firmware, heres what he posted:
Method to run the pbp demo of ridge racer 2 for "2.81" in firmware 2.71 with hen C, in 2.71 SE or in devhook emulating 2.71 (i haven't tested the last one but it should work).
- Download decrypter test
- With some pbp utility, such as pbp unpacker, extract the files from the pbp. Put the extracted file DATA.PSP in the root of memory stick.
- Run the decrypter test with 1.50 kernel if you are in or in devhook emulating 1.50 if you are in HEN.
The decrypter test will output a file called "DATA_OUT.PSP in the root of memory stick. Using this file as the data.psp, rebuild the pbp. Change the text "2.81" with some hexadecimal editor to something <= 2.71
Ready. No you can play it. (of course if you are in 2.71, you only can execute it while hen is in memory).
This method doesn't work with other demos like world tour soccer, because, despite they decrypt, they may have some kind of protection and they crash. (not even locoroco decrypted runs).

Haha ...Dark Alex is a legend! It's good to hear that DA is still on the case.
So will this trick work on my 1.5 via devhook? ...or is it just for 2.71se psp's?
it looks like you decrpt with 1.5 kernal then play on 2.71 so should work on devhook for 1.5 psps.
it wont work!! light just flashes 2.71 se
This rocks I wanted to play this demo.
Im haveing problems also. Ive try useing PSP brew to extracrt the files and PBP unpacker to make a new EBOOT.PBP and to edit the PARAM.SFO but the outcome is a corrupted icon in 2.71 (devhook) then I tryed useing the pspsdk command pack-pbp and editing the PARAM.sfo with a hex editer XVI32 and the game is bootable but after a few seconds of loading it returns to the XMB with an error.![]()
Works, but the demo was kinda short....
