are you trying to connect thru the xmb or homebrew such as irshell if its the xmb try homebrew if hombrew try xmb if both then buy a card reader.
I have a v1.5 psp with a 1 gig mem stick. Every time i connect my psp to my comp, the computer refuses to recognize the device. I run windows XP home on my comp. I have tried to update the driver, and it never works. some times i will be able to connect to the psp, but it will show that there is 0bytes in the drive.

Can you answer these questions?
1. Is your memory stick formatted? On your psp go to SETTINGS->SYSTEM->FORMAT MEMORY STICK
2. Are you using a usb connection or a memory card reader? (I dunno, both work fine for me)
3. Can you browse your memory stick through windows explorer? START->PROGRAMS->ACCESSORIES->WIN EXPLORER
Also you should never use the windows driver updater, It won't find anything.
I bought a 1 gig memory stick, formatted it in my psp, and then used the usb connector. It worked fine on my win xp home computer.
You might have a bad usb cable, that's happened to me a few times.
Also I think it's not a good idea to format the card with your computer.
Not with your comp, with your psp.
