San Andreas suits advance

When the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas sex-minigame scandal hit the mainstream media last year, legal action swiftly followed. A series of class actions suits were filed against Take-Two Interactive, owner of GTA publisher Rockstar Games. One plaintiff was Florence Cohen, who claimed she suffered emotional damage after learning of the minigames in San Andreas, which she had bought for her grandson.

Along with many others, Cohen's complaint sought class-action status for all purchasers of San Andreas. Over the course of the past year, many of the San Andreas suits have been combined in a federal court in New York City. There, lawyers for Take-Two have argued that some suits be dismissed on the grounds that they could only be filed in the states where the plaintiffs actually resided, not federally.

Yesterday, according to the Reuters news service, a judge ruled against Take-Two, saying that she would consider granting all plaintiffs class-action status. "If class certification is granted, the court will have the benefit of a well-defined class and a more fully developed treatment of potential choice of law questions," U.S. District Judge Shirley Wohl Kram was quoted as saying.

Well Florence Cohen has nothing to complain about if she bought the game for her 18 year old grandson, as per the game's ESRB rating.

If she didn't then why should she be allowed to sue? In fact, why should any of them be allowed to sue? Its like a mother knowingly taking her son to a strip club and then suing the club for having women dancing around naked.

Seriously this country needs to stop using law suits as an absolvement of human stupidity...

YES FINALLY. Ok someone finally gets how retarded America is becoming. We are WAY WAY WAY to politically correct. I got news for you, people were way happier without having to worry about offending someone. I can almost guarentee that that retard Jack Thompson is behind most of this. And if a grandma knowingly buys a game rated M for strong sexual content, strong language, strong violence, and Blood and Gore, then I personally think she should NOT be allowed to sue. I mean the warnings are right on the box, so if they continue to buy the game then it should be considered void against all lawsuits.

exactly. Game lawsuits are completly retarded. Its like my "aunt". Hits three people on three different occasions. Completly her fault but the jury rules in favor of her. It doesn't make any sense.

Well heaven forbid anyone blames the parents. Why should the law tell it like is when it can find a scapegoat?

If I were Take Two, I'd tell that judge flat out:

"Your honor, these individuals bought this game in a manner that goes against the ESRB rating system. How are we held accountable for the information in said game, when it was wrongly supplied to minors?"

No one takes Anhueser Busch or Phillip Morris to court because of underage smoking and drinking. So why should anyone be allowed to do the same for a game?

I hate to say it, but making it illegal for someone to buy a Mature game for a minor would probably solve alot of these problems...

Yeah plus the other day a Granmother was looking for a gift for her 7yr old Gran-son, she decided on a Rated 18 Porno, then shockingly this thing contained content completly un-exceptable for a 7 year old, it was an outrage.



See how stupid that sounds?, its the same here, games have the EXACT same 18 rating as pornos, horrors and anything else like that, so the game should be treated in the same way. Its the fault of the insanly retarded parents who would sue Nestle if they tripped over a kinder egg. There either idiots or those annoying as hell people that just try to get whatever money there grubby hands can get, and the saddest thing of all is that these courts buy into it.
