In fact it's due to the modification of 2 filea on the PSPs flash memory called index.dat and version.txt. If that was the case, I'd downgrade to 1.00 and start an update from there (in my case it was to get a clean installation of 1.50).

Maybe you could try downgrading to 1.00 and then start the 2.82 updater from there, or use device hook instead if you get it to work. Remember, it's a suggestion and it's up to you on how you're going to go about it.

downgraded to 1.00 and ran the 2.81 update from the the game disc, it did the same thing.

I dont understand what my problem is, all i've done is run the dark alex downdater, and i havent been able to update since.

Don't upgrade, GTA works on 2.71... Albeit probably not with the UMD without a kinda swap...

Having said that: Try upgrading to 2.00 first or another intermediate firmware...

stop listening to the fools saying it requires 2.8 and whatever, it requires 2.71, so u can use devhook, and for proof it does work, go look at pspupdates.qj.net, they did research on it, so anyone who has to disagree with me, stop being an idiot and go look before u have something stupid to say

Just update to the new dark alex custom firmware B", it runs the UMD straight on, no need for nothing like that.

Actually Cloudy is correct, people have been able to run GTA:VCS using devhook with firmware 2.71.
