If your thinking of doing the modchip then watch the psphacking101 modchip episode.
Hope all goes well with the chip.
hey harris if u buy the chip just go to a local radioshack with instructions and they will probably do it for a fee or a computer spot around ur home
Intresting idea. Good way to help people and make a little money on the side.
This is something that hasent been mentioned to my knowledge but had anyone thought about possable upbricking via the RS232 serial port (the remote port) unfortunatly I have little to no programming knowledge / experence but i was thinking something along the lines of sending data via telnet so something along those lines... Any ideas anyone?

lol if this does work u should release a tutorial on doing this, and ppl would praise u.
if bricking is caused by updating/downgrading the flash on its mobo. Why dont ppl try and find a way to make the psp run its OS from a memory stick? I mean i run linux from my 2 gig stick on my pc. It would probably be alot slower depending on the latency between the mobo and psp. Then again if the flash is tied with the bios of the psp or something theres no way that would work out, but just a thought.
If you've tried DevHook, you are likely to know what it's like to run the os from memstick. Not much different, I'd say.
