2.71 custom fw + devhook?

I rammed through a few threads but didn't see this, so hope its not been covered to death already. (We had a funeral and I've been not paying too much attention for a little while as a result

Instead of reflashing to 2.71 SE'' (woot to D_A!), can it just be loaded from devhook like actual firmware? I'd like to play with it, but I'm still hesitant to risk a brick (after all the stuff I'v done to this little machine, yet still leary; yes I'm aware of the recovery mode, but that too is risky potentially.)

Or does running 2.71 SE'' not like running in dh?

if you dump the firmware it may be possible
