Well if it's a .png or something you right click on the eraser icon in the tools area and click either "Background eraser" or "Magic eraser", whichever one works best (magic eraser is kind of like the fill tool, except erases instead of fills). Then with the background eraser choose the size of the eraser at the top, and click and drag the parts of the picture you want to erase. For magic eraser click on the background to erase it. It will be transparent where you erased.
No, no... Goto the blending options and in the first section on the left goto opacity and turn it down a little. That's the real way to do it. Me thinks.
Didn't u want to make the entire thing transparent? Damn man don't make such a simple question end up so complicated.
