    if your making it from scratch just used clear as backgorund. In other words no color what so ever. Or do what chrono mentioned but you have to turn it al the way to 0

    You could go to the layer in the Layers box (by default, it's on the bottom right) and adjust the opacity (transparency) using the slider.

    If you want a specific object to be transparent and not the whole image, you'll need to seperate your work into layers.
