If it has a 2 I don't think it can read CD-Rs, but I heard it works for some so just try it.
btw: 99% of CD's will work, however CD-RWs will not.
Hey there,
I just bought a Dreamcast and according to some info it won't read burned CDRs...and then some other info says it will..
It was manufactured October 2000 and it has the number 2 in a circle.
http://www.dcemulation.com/article-supported.htm
The above site says that all dreamcasts play CDRs..
I have the:
Regular DC Console
HKT-3020
China, and the letters WK
670-14081N
October 2000 & letters WK
So can anyone give me a definitive answer?
Thanks![]()

If it's PAL it will, I wasted 5 CD-R's before I got anything booting on mine (bloody laptop) so don't give up Straight away. If you got a non-compatable one go buy another DC (or treamcast) it's well worth it for the homebrew.
I burned Nester DCSE and it wouldnt boot. Also tried a Utopia 1.3 bot disk..still nothing..![]()
I know the images were good, because I could open them in Chankast.
Oh well...I got the DC from a used video game store, so hopefully they will let me exchange it.
Thanks anyways

did the utopia boot disc load at all?
btw you don't need utopia for homebrew
what program are you burning the cds with, also try a different dc-r type, some cheap ones don't work
So I took it back just now, and the 3 other DCs on the shelf all had 1999 as the year it was manufactored. Its kind of funny that I picked the one dreamcast that was not compatible... :P
It's all good now.
