Anyone that is STILL having trouble (like i was) try TURNING OFF YOUR PS3 if you have one near your computer.

If its on while your trying to use a ps3 controller on your pc, its not going to work.

ok although i consider myself a complete idiot i may have found something on the issue of it not working ... first have i tplugged in and go start>run>cmd .... that should open command prompt then drag the ps3sixaxis_en.exe onto the command prompt this should enter the directory to it and hit enter... wait and it should say "found plastation 3 controller" now go to start all programs and open the libusb test program... u should see something implicating its recognizing the ps3 controller....now the problem i had is it would always say the name of another usb device i had plugged in so u can try either re running ps3sixaxis_en.exe through cmd and checking under the libusb test program to see if it recognized it and if not try unplugging the detected usb device and running ps3sixaxis_en.exe again. after u get libusb to recognize it u should be set but the main issue i had is it would do this crap all over again when i unplugged the controller or restarted my computer so just run libusb test and do all that crap again till it works.

I have it working to the point where the controller shows/can be calibrated via the control panel.
My problem is that no games i have tried it on (admittedly only CoD4/BIOshock so far) have accepted the input AT ALL.
Is this a game compatibility thing or can i fix this? I personally prefer mouse+keyboard in almost any scenario but my brother is more comfortable with dual joystick.
If all else fails i know the 360 pad is practically plug and play but i don't have a 360 and would rather not have to spend the cash on a controller for a console i don't have.

*edit* it seems to work with games that accept joystick input (X3 and FlightSimX tested in a moment of inspiration). Which sucks because why the hell would i play any game that i use my x45 for with a dual joy (okay, maybe mechwarrior but that is a stretch)?

Does anyone know of a way that i can install it as a standard gamepad as opposed to a joystick (using a generic driver or the like)? Maybe if i could do that i would be able to bind, i doubt it would work but it is probably worth the trouble to save me the cash for a new control pad (we be po').

Also can anyone confirm if placing sixaxis_en.exe in the start folder runs it properly at boot?

*edit number 2* using this program http://www.redcl0ud.com/controlmk/index.html i was able to bind it to my keyboard/mouse so i guess i solved my own problem in that regard. ill test my startup question after im happy with my binds, ill let you know if it works (if anyone is actually reading this).

    VISTA USERS:
64 bit is not supported, you have to hope that both libusb and the sixaxis loader get updated (which isn't looking likely)
32 bit there is a workaround, here's how to do it:
    1- download the package (http://dl.qj.net/SIXAXIS-driver-for-...1679/catid/518)
2- unpackage the files to somewhere you will keep them.
3- if you have previously installed it, make sure you delete the files C:\Windows\System32\libusb0.dll and C:\Windows\System32\drivers\libusb0.sys. This applies even if you uninstalled it already.
4- right click the installer (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe), go to the compatibility tab, and choose XP SP2 compatibility.
5- right click the installer and run it as administrator.
6- when the installer is done you can plug your controller in
    7- run ps2sixaxis_en.exe
8- press the PS button a few times, and it should now work.

    General tips:
    * You have to run ps2sixaxis_en.exe every time windows starts (I just put a shortcut to it in my start menu -> startup)
    * Remember that if your PS3 is nearby you have to turn it off at the switch or wall
    * I read that some games will recognise the left stick as a joystick, although I haven't tried it out yet
    * Don't use the latest libusb, it doesn't work with ps2sixaxis_en.exe and it gives you a BSOD every time you shutdown.

    Spread the word:
Not many people know how to get it working on Vista - it took me a bit of trial and error to make it work. If you know people/boards who need this info copy/paste it to them. It'll only take you a few seconds.

Mine worked perfectly on vista 32bit from the start . Anyway im having trouble with rugby 08 and fifa 08. i just wish there was a place to calibrate the controller in windows to make some buttons standard. Pro evo08 detects all the buttons fine but cause there is no calibration in rugby my left stick is to run fast and everything is just in the wrong place.
