as someone thats used both methods to hack at least 5 of these consoles, I would agree that softmod is actually a SAFER meathod. You can still **** it up of course, so make sure you read up and understand what your doing and how it works.

I modded mine with a chip and no problems whatsoever. o_O I mean, if you use the screw-in model, how can you go wrong? You can't even mess up with solder inside your solder. Assuming you keep your original hdd, you can even get it running like factory spec. just by popping out the chip and putting the 8-10GB hdd back in.

o_O And I imagine you DO plan on using a different hdd. What else could you do with 8-10 gigs anyway?

    I disagree.

A chip is better. It allows you to replace the hardrive (easier).

True, and as stated before, there are solderless options to go with as well. The best ones being the Xecuter3 CE and Xenium S.P. Ice. Basically, you just make sure everything lines up, screw it down, and re-assemble the xbox.

In the home console world, it should be like this:

Dreamcast>Xbox>Gamecube (no one realizes how easy it is)>PS2
