xbox 360 The HD-DVD Addon has sold 150,000

    via wallstreet journal

About 695,000 consumers own either a Blu-ray or an HD-DVD player, according to Tom Adams of Adams Media Research in Carmel, Calif. But only about 25,000 have purchased stand-alone Blu-ray players. Another 400,000 consumers have Blu-ray because they bought a Sony PS3 game console. Meanwhile, about 120,000 or so have a stand-alone HD-DVD player while about 150,000 have an HD-DVD upgrade kit for their Xbox 360 game consoles, Mr. Adams says. He adds that those numbers are well in excess of the 300,000 DVD-player sales in 1997, when that technology rolled out.

    So..

Total HD DVD capable machines = 270,000
Total Blu Ray capable machines = 425,000

Add to that approx half a million japanese PS3s sold and Blu Ray already has a massive lead. The European PS3 launch will add another few hundred thousand to the Blu Ray total..

Doesn't matter. Content will decide the winner and content follows the format with the biggest potential customer base, which is Blu Ray.

Personally i don't care as i've got a 360 and will get my PS3 in March. But i won't be buying a HD-DVD drive as i'd rather have HDMI output and it all in one box, i also believe Blu Ray will end up being the winner.

Also many more people in the UK are buying HDTVs than you think.. i know 5 that have bought one in the last few months.
