Edit: Ignore the rest of the post, cheers for the correction partyman.

All video in 2.81+ can be placed in <psp's drive letter>:\VIDEO

I thought the custom firmware was the same, no need to mess with ..\MP_ROOT\100ANV01\ and annoying naming restrictions.

Could be wrong, haven't watched a video on my psp in quite a while.

I tried putting my converted vids direct into the VIDEO directory but i got "unsupported data", they work though when i put them into the 100ANV01 directory.

Isn't Xvid4PSP alot better than this?

It seems to work way faster and has a nicer interface.

Just a thought, for 4x3 (1:33) videos, the optimum resolution would be 360x272, but when I tried to create such a video in 3GP Converter, by making a custom ini file, the PSP would not recognise the finished video.

Is this still an inherent limitation of user created AVC videos, or am I doing something wrong?

make sure you have firmware v3.03OE-B and the vid is directory \MP_ROOT\100ANV01\

Anyway, does anyone know of a way to convert .VOB DVD rip files to this new PSP format?

Or is there a nice program to convert .VOB to high quality .AVI so that you could then convert the .AVI to 480x272 AVC???
I just use DVDshrink, make sure it does not split into 1gb chunks, you should then have a 4.7gb file, just drop the 4.7gb .VOB into the window & it converts straight away.
Just done Minority Report & it has worked fine.

480x272 support is cool, but on xilisofts psp convertor you'll have 1500kbit/s on excelent quallity

xilisoft allows for 480x272 resolution for AVC already? How fast is the transcoding with that program? Good speed? Or slow?

Xilisoft's max resolution is 368x208 at the moment...It converts about the same speed as 3GP. Also, you were right about AVC going in the 100ANV01 folder. Sorry for all the confusion.

How many of you have actually made an AVC video file for psp?

I've tried EVERY encoder there is and nothing works at all. Using these settings for 3GP adds in a couple extra encoding settings for the 480x272 res but I cant get anything other than BASIC psp video that will show up as anything other than unsupported data.

    Ive tried placing them in

    /video
    /video/100ANV01
    /video/100MNV01

They wont even show up in:

    mp_root
    mp_root/100ANV01
    mp_root/100MNV01

Now here's the funniest part. MOST of you are LYING. Not so much in this forums as others.
But PPL ARE TELLING ME TO PUT MOVIES IN THE MP_ROOT...
If you did you havent tested a damn thing. Your data is outdated. And you should give your psp away to someone who may help others by simply not lying by saying you got it to work in there.

You are outdated and this is for 3.02oe-b and firmwares UP not DOWN. Took me forever to find someone who told me 3.03oe has a new MS_Root layout and i should format.

Maybe yours does support AVC encoded video. but I think your lyyyying.

    ____________UPDATE

OOoh... OKAY! I got it now...

    Not
    /VIDEO/100ANV01/

It's this one for these encodings! WOOOOT!

    /MP_ROOT/100ANV01
