Im kinda lost on why theres so many firmwares
I got 2.80 and all i want really is just a psp emulator to play Final Fantasy 7 nothing else but i was told to downgrade to 1.5 to upgrade back to 3.03. Im so confused i just want Final Fantasy

Downgrade and Upgrade to custom firmware. Sony requires you to purchase a PS3 and repurchase games you already own. We see how well they did trying that with UMD movies. Really though there is no point in using Sony's unaltered firmware you gain nothing and loose so much.
