I found many used 2.71s at Gamestop, as well as a 2.8 and 2.5. I only checked at two stores so there could be way more out there as well.

I walked in to EB Games and asked to see there PSP's The dude came out And opened them And I looked at them all and made sure they had the right mother board and Firmware. Both the dude selling them and my dad were like uhh wtf??? Also For a memory card I went to walmart and got a 2gig for like $80 american.

You can check the box for codes (check out this link)

At the local Best Buy, they have 2.71's (K)...

If you have a costco, I'd for sure get one from there. I recently bought a PSP from there, when I checked, it was 2.60 (but now it's 3.03 OE-B ). For a memory stick, I'd get a Sony one, because you know it's going to work. Make sure it has MagicGate though.

Ebgames/Gamestop employees do not update firmware of preowned psp's. That is a myth. I just bought a used psp right after Christmas and I asked the employees about that "policy". They didn't even know what the most recent firmware was. Got myself a used psp in launch packaging (spiderman 2 sticker) with 2.60 firmware. Of course, that became 3.02OE-B before the night was over.

My advice: Go the used psp route. Most stores don't care about you handling the used merchandise anyway.
