General games Germany Pushing for European Game Regulation

    via kotaku

Germany is leading the charge for standardizing rules regarding violent video games across the European Union. The country has perceived a massive rise in video game related violence as of late (which happens when you start looking for video game links to every crime that occurs) has recently proposed a law in their own country banning any game that depicts violence against humans. Since they are calling for standardized rules, one can easily assume they would like to see the same sort of law adapted across the whole of Europe.

"A certain degree of linkage between the growing violence among the younger generation and the growing diffusion of violent games exists," said Franco Frattini, the European Justice commissioner, at a meeting of the justice ministers in Dresden, Germany, on Tuesday.

Just what we need out of touch people telling gamers what games to play

wow, how un-european i must say.

i'd be surprised if even France let that through in the whole of the EU. I'd say Britain too, but most brits wont even except that we are part of the EU more fool them.

I recall the Contra series changing the men into robots for this sort of reason, also had a name change for obvious reasons to Probotecter, and in slightly more recent times there was the Turok that had robots instead of men to shoot. If they want this to spread to other lands then they are surely smoking something illegal but then they've always wanted to impose their will on the rest of europe havent they?

people say games can cause people to "lose touch" with reality and they sometimes get confused between the game world and the real world . in my opinion if you cant tell the difference you need help quickly. i enjoy games, i enjoy gta but i am not a criminal. killing in real life is tragic but on screen people aren't real and do not have familys and feelings. i think its down to parent to judge what they think is appropriate for their kids and by the time your old enough to buy 18 rated games you should be mature enough to know that it is just a game !!

Since when is this new? I thought any game depicting violence against humans was already banned and that games had to use robots, zombies or aliens in the place of human beings?

    Default Noooo!

Well We need our freedom and liberty and these are getting erroded by regulations and laws such as this, we must be very careful of what laws and regulations we bring in as these can cause inisent good will people become involed in the law and before long we all dont know what is right or wrong, that is poilical correctness gone mad. Thats why we must defend our freedom and liberty using peaceful and loving ways such as the Democratic system of voting. A law such as this will make this matter much worse as where do you draw the line whats wrong and how do I know what I should not do? Are 2 white dots on a screen moving into each other volient? this can be interpred to be so could that be baned? what about voilent movies? I just think that is going to far....
