    @Deniska

    I'd like to see an option when setting a marker that the distance readout at the top could be toggled to show feet as opposed to miles..........for example when using a marker to find out the distance on a satellite map of a golf course from position of the ball to the pin on the green. Thanks.

    So hello!
    I'm french (so excuse me for a possible bad english).
    First, thank you very much Deniska to be an activate member on the homebrew'scene.

    I've order the GPS receiver (PSP-290)so i got it last friday and i was very excited to test it.

    So i'm under the 3.02OE-B firmware and i've got a problem.

    In fact, when i launch the last Mapthis, i connect my receiver, i push the square button to activate the GPS mode, then i go to "GPS info".

    In this mode I can catch some satellite, so the mode is "on" during 20 seconds after "activating" appears and its bugs, i can't fix satellites.

    To conclude, i've "on" during 20 seconds (1 minute max) after it's "activating" and nothing appears...I can't stay on "on"...
    So do you have the same problem and can you help me, i hope, it's not the receiver which is "broken".

    Bye ! see you later

    I can't replicate this behavior with my unit.. so there may be a problem with your gps (check the connection - perhaps your usb socket is loose)

    1. as you can see in the shot above, the arrow doesnt pinpoint exactly where I am. by right I was on the right side of the street, not inside the house. Could this be rectified by myself or is it a fault somewhere in the map creation? (GMDL 4.0b)

    2. It takes about somewhere more than a minute to get a fix on a satelite if I'm stationary, harder so if I'm inside a car and moving. It detects just fine when I'm in the front passanger seat but is nearly undetectable when I'm in the back seat (car is a sedan btw). Do I really need line of sight to get a fix? I flip the antenna so that the gps logo is facing the sky as it seems to be the best way to get a fix.

    I use 2.71 usbacc.prx and 3.03 usbgps.prx, the same combination that ninico reported success a couple of pages back.
    1)My guess is that either the satelite imagery is not precise or you get "noice" - signal reflections from the buildings...
    See if you can get imagery from a different vendor (especially if you get this position steadily)

    2)Car's metal roof seem to partially block the signal (which in PSP-290 case is not high to begin with) If you really looking for a GPS solution for a car - I would go with holux 236 - it's more sensitive to begin with and has a socket for external powered (optional) antenna to further boost the reception streinght.

    In the new eboot, when you mentioned you have changed the thread priority, just curious to know, if you changed the line

    sceKernelDelayThread(995000);

    in gpsmngr in main.c? was the value 300000, same as the green proggie? Thanks. Just very curious to know still why I get different performances.
    In MapThis I check the gps data every second and the green progie dow it a bit more often (3 times a sec)
    I doubt that it would make any different since the receiver updates data just once a second. Feel free to recomple with different values if you think this may affect anything..

    is it true that the PSP290 works only in certain areas?
    coz' if so, i'm gonna ebay sell mine..
    In theory any gps receiver should be able to work anywhere on this planet.
    On practice.. there may be a few things that affect the reception quality... some areas may have gps jammers, so if you live near ICBM launch site you may have problems with any gps device ;-)
    Another theory.. - perhaps the gps unit was specifically designed for "made in Japan" PSPs, ie any other motherboards/assemplies deviate from original spec and therefore produce some interference which affects the reception.

    BTW, as a New Yorker, I can state that PSP-290 was definitelly NOT designed for big cities with lot's of skyscrappers and electrical interferences...

    Just a few guesses ;-)

    Thanks for the reply, deniska! I have tried to recompile and fix several times but I keep running into errors with the library (probably due to some incompabilities with using the mac platform)

    Anyway, that's alright, it's just a thought as I noticed the function being the main difference (maybe you could help me compile the latest source with that changed but if you're busy, that's cool. Very appreciate your work thus far. Cheers.

    Deniska/Anyone,

    My 290 has finally come in and ive run into a problem. Ive got maps all sorted, have prx's that work fine under the test proggy and load fine in mapthis but the problem is my psp with 303oec will reset as soon as a fix is made on enough sat's for it to start showing the co-ords, usually shuts off just after pressing 'select' to get back into the map view.

    One thing ive noticed before it shuts down is the lattitude will show in the negative when it shouldn't be. Im not sure if this is the cause of the crash but would look likely to me with the minor exp ive had with the software.

    ive tried adjusting initlocation with no luck. any ideas?
