Recovery pack for 3.02OE-A - 3.40OE-A

So I must be stupid or something but when I downlaod the recovery pack it already has a file named UPDATE.PBP in it what am I supposed to do with that? I changed the name EBOOT.PHP to UPDATE.PHP.(I got rid of the other file) But everytime I run the recovery program nothing happens

I feel pretty dumb asking this but... When I try to restart my psp I never get any sort of purple menu, just the normal screen. All of the files are in the right place and I renamed the Eboot 1.5 to update. My firmware is 2.6 at the moment. What is going on/what should I do? (I'm not very tech-savvy so layman's terms would be nice.)
