I am confused about downgrading

I have a 2.60 and I am seeing alot of downgraders saying I need a gta but i don't have one but people said there are ways around it.

I would appreciate if some one helped me because I have downgraded three psps with no problem but with help and I dont want to brick my friend's psp

Or should I upgrade to a 2.71 and then downgrade

It's a lot easier for you to use the 2.71 Generic downgrader so upgrader to 2.71 and use that.
