golf gps

Hey Deniska great job on the MapThis! program. I really enjoy using the gps-290 version. I just wanted to get your input on the possibilty of an app that can give yardages on a golf course. It could be something as simple looking as the green proggie, but it gives yardages to the green (and maybe a couple POIs like water or sand). I believe the conventional golf gps devices (i.e. Skycaddie, igolf) do this by creating a designated barrier for each hole then once this barrier is crossed, it moves the focus to the next hole and starts displaying your distance from the next green.
Would something like this even be possible on the PSP? What about a port of the many PocketPC apps such as Pocket mCaddy GPS?

Yards as units are not supported in the current versions, since it was mostly geared towards in-car usage... You can capture distances in kilometers (check the config.txt file) and then roughly convert them in to yards by multiplying to 1000 (actually 1km=1094 yards)
You can mark the holes/obsticles with add POI option, and then edit _MY_POIS file in your map's directory to group/rename them and add custom graphics... it takes up to 10 different icons per POI file...

Mahoney, any luck with the app? I would love to use my psp on the golf course. Deniska do you have any thoughts of adding this feature to future releases? I'm sure a lot of people would love to use it. BTW Great job on Map This!

I tried creating my own POI's for center of green and hazards but it doesn't seem to work. I used the google map and created points but I couldn't get it to save. I created using VE and I can't pull it up either. Is there a guide on creating POI's so Ican create one for golf courses. BTW is there a way to use VE maps in POI instead of google or does it matter?

Why not create POIs with mapthis and then edit them (change text and imagery) with notepad or some other editor? Your pois will be saved in _MYPOIS file on your memory stick
