Brazilian authorities have denied Apple the right to use the iPhone trademark after it emerged that a local company had already registered the name.
According to Reuters, Gradiente Eletronica SA had registered the name ‘iPhone’ seven years before the device was actually launched.
As well as this, a spin off company of Gradiente, called IGB Eletronica, launched its own range of ‘iPhones’ at the end of last year. The Android-powered device is available in both black and white.
The Brazilian Institute of Intellectual Property will officially announce the decision on February 13th.
