In brief: the PS3 launch line-up

The PlayStation 3 will launch in Europe tomorrow alongside 27 first- and third-party titles plus a selection of peripherals.

There are a few games missing from the original launch line-up - Ubisoft has pushed back several titles, while Vivendi's F.E.A.R. won't now arrive until April. NHL 2K7 and Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom have also been delayed.

There were originally eight PlayStation Network games scheduled for release on day one, but that number is down to four.

The 60GB PS3 will cost GBP 425 / EUR 599, although consumers in Ireland, Norway and Denmark will pay a slightly higher price. The 20GB model is expected to follow later in the year.

Friday also sees the launch of a new firmware update for PlayStation 3 which boosts the number of PS2 games compatible with the console - full details are available on PlayStation.com.

Update 1.6 will also introduce background downloading for up to six pieces of content, support for Bluetooth keyboards and mice, a full on-screen text-entry keyboard, and an application which allows users to take part in the Folding@home project. It's available by selecting the System Update option from the PS3's browser, or on disc from Sony's customer services department.

Peripherals on sale from tonight will include the GBP 34.99 SIXAXIS pad, plus a Blu-ray player remote control at GBP 17.99. A range of cables will be available - HDMI and Component AV (GBP 17.99 each), plus AV and S-video (GBP 12.99 each).
