I haven't messed with the custom XMB's since I still like my original with my custom background image, but how do the custom xmb's work? Like are they plugins or do you have to do some flashing, how safe is it?

And if this is a war sony didn't start it, the Homebrew scene did by creating UMD rippers and distributing them on the net. If someone breaks into your house and steals all your stuff you'd wanna make sure it doesn't happen again right??!?
