The wiimote isn't poor quality. Just the older wiimotes came with crappy wrist straps. Nintendo fixed this by making new straps and you can order them free.

The wiimote was moving very fast

Hmm, on http://www.wiihaveaproblem.com/, there are many instances of Wiimotes coming off better than many products they have come to contact with, so I wouldn't put it down to it being made incredibly badly as a stroke of bad luck. Look elsewhere for excuses to bash Nintendo
