Cheat Code Confusion [please help]

I've been having a great time creating workable pbp's of my old playstation games. Now it comes to the time where I want to start playing a few of the games...and cheat (a little). I've tried comprehending cwcheat but everything I've read is all over the place. I also believe from what I've read that I can't use it with my FW anyway [3.30 OE-A']? So I guess my question is...Can I use or somehow convert ePSXe saves to work in place of the MEMCARD1.DAT file? Or is it possible to hex edit them at all? The cheats I want to use are savable (max $, unlockable characters, etc) so once they are executed and saved they don't need to be active during the game. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, TIA
