Hi danondorf, welcome to PSP homebrew
The best SNES emulator for the PSP is SNES9x_TYL 0.42ME, you can download it HERE (from this release thread).
It runs many games at (or very close to) full speed, games that had co-processors (like the super FX chip) in the cart normally do not run full speed.
You will want to try changing some of the settings like frameskip to have the best experience you can get from it.
I haven't heard any news of any newer/better SNES emulators for the PSP.
Some games like yoshi's island have been ported to the GBA, and gpSP 0.9 (a GBA emulator for PSP, found Here) can emulate that version better than snes9x_tyl can emulate the snes version.
As for installing the SNES emulator:
- Download SNES9X_TYL 0.42ME from HERE
- Connect your PSP to a PC with a USB cable and put the PSP in USB mode. (all the way to the left in the menu, then up and select USB mode).
- Extract the zip archive to your desktop or somewhere.
- Browse inside the newly created folder 'snes9xTYL-0.4.2me' and you will find 2 folders '1.0' and '1.5'.
- Copy the 2 folders 'snes9xTYL' and 'snes9xTYL%' from inside the '1.5' folder and place them in X:\PSP\GAME (X being the drive letter of your PSP).
- Copy your rom files to X:\PSP\GAME\snes9xTYL\ROMS
- Exit USB mode, browse on the PSP's menu to Game/Memory stick and choose snes9xTYL.
- Enjoy.
If you want to get rid of the corrupt icon that you get on the PSP's menu, use Sei PSP tool (latest version HERE) to rename the folders in a way that stops it showing. It can also change the order that homebrew shows up in on the PSP's menu.
I'm sure you'll be flooded with 'upgrade to custom firmware' posts soon enough, but I think its good to get used to homebrew on the PSP with it running 1.5 first.
I'm still running firmware 1.5 and use devhook to run newer game UMDs.
Hope some of that helped![]()
